The need for safe, affordable housing for women in Chicago is real and growing. These resources help residents access support, funding, and services — and show why what we do at Oakline matters.
Chicago has a shortage of over 120,000 affordable units for extremely low-income renters. Women, especially those on fixed incomes, are disproportionately affected. Shared living is one of the most effective solutions.
Chicago Dept of Housing →Research shows that shared housing reduces isolation, lowers cost burdens, and improves mental health outcomes for women in transitional periods. All-inclusive arrangements like Oakline remove the administrative barriers that derail stability.
HUD Affordable Housing →Residents can use SSI, SSDI, Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8), Veterans benefits (VASH), or private pay. A representative payee can manage payments directly. Ask us about working with your case manager to set this up.
SSI Benefits Guide →If you or someone you know needs immediate shelter before a room at Oakline becomes available, these Chicago organizations provide emergency and transitional support for women.
Illinois Legal Aid Housing →Organizations like Sarah's Inn, The Night Ministry, and Cornerstone Community Outreach provide wraparound services for women in Chicago including counseling, job training, and transitional housing referrals.
Sarah's Inn →IHDA funds affordable housing development and rental assistance across Illinois. Their programs support the creation of homes like Oakline and connect residents to rental subsidy programs statewide.
